Jumble Sale

The Jumble Sale - Saturday 18th April 2026

Welcome to the Greenbank Scout Jumble Sale!

Time: 9:30am to 12:30pm

We run an amazing Jumble Sale every year which helps us fund our activities for our 180 young people and upcycles a huge quantity of second hand goods.

We welcome all our visitors helping us raise vital funds so that young people can get the most out of Scouting at Greenbank.

We hope you grab many great bargains and enjoy the jumble!

Fundraising

We are fundraising for our two organisations with over 180 young people:

The 4th Braid Scout Group and the Braid District Explorer group.

The groups comprise Beavers 6-8 years old, Cubs 8-10.5 years old and Scouts 11-14 years old, the District Explorer Scouts are from 14-18 years old.

Both meet in Greenbank Parish Church where the jumble sale is held.

Greenbank Parish Church

4th Braid Scouts meets at Greenbank Parish Church. The Scout Group is always thankful for the support of the church for their uniformed organisations.

Recycling and Waste prior to the event

The Jumble Sale is a massive community recycling operation. For five days leading up to today, people have been kindly dropping off donations for the jumble sale and we are so very grateful to everyone for donating.

We receive a wide range of items, and these are sorted by our young people through the week into the correct stall location. Only a small fraction of donations we receive are not suitable for sale (broken, dangerous or faulty) and require to be put in general waste or sorted in the appropriate recycling destination.

After the Jumble Sale

Every year we have a huge amount of left over items that we did not sell and we take great care and have a big team of our Scouts and Explorers and adult volunteers who ensure that all of it is sorted out, and the vast majority is re-donated to other charities. A small fraction will not be taken by local charities, that is split into recycling or general waste.

Read on to find out the local charities that take our left over items.

Edinburgh Community Bookshop

Last year we donated 2 van loads, with about 1.5 to 2 metric tons of books, to the Community Bookshop. Over the years, our donations have raised £1000's for the local charities they support.

Each month, they select a local charity and donate the majority of their profits to that charity.
